Mission
Statement
The Citizens On Patrol (COP) program is a volunteer arm of the
Cincinnati Police Division. Members have joined to make the community
of Northside a safer and more attractive place to live.
Who
are we?
We are
your neighbors.
The
Northside COP is composed of Northside residents that volunteer their
time to serve as the “Eyes and Ears” of the Cincinnati Police. We do
not interfere with a crime in progress, we only observe and report. The
group has approximately 20 active members. We range in age from the 20s
to the 70s. Many of us have normal day/night time jobs or volunteer time
with other organizations, therefore our patrol schedule varies. On
average, the group logs an average of 110 patrol hours a month.
By
patrolling our neighborhood in 2-4 hour shifts on a regular basis we are
easily able to recognize “suspicious” activities and report them to the
proper authorities. The information we are passing along to the
Cincinnati Police is allowing them to solve crimes and focus their
patrols effectively on the hot spots. In addition to crime, we focus on
the quality of life issues and conditions that encourage criminal
behavior.
We report things such as:
-
Unsecured buildings
-
Graffiti
-
Litter
-
Junk and
abandoned vehicles
-
Illegal
dump sites
-
Overgrown lots
Over the last four years we have successfully had over 300 junk
vehicles removed from the neighborhood, seven illegal dump sites
cleaned up, over 25 vacant buildings secured, and innumerable pieces
of graffiti abated. In addition to reporting these items to Public
Works, we occasionally address them ourselves through clean ups and
graffiti abatements.
When and Where we meet
COP meets on the second and fourth
Thursday of the month at Off the Avenue Studios, 1546 Knowlton Street,
at 6 pm.
